Hi,
I saw the link to your blog on facebook, and I just want to say that I think your RSO is really great. I saw some fliers/e-mails for your first meeting, but couldn't make it.

I'm really glad you posted this story about Cook County, I think prisoner conditions at Cook County have consistently been a pretty rough issue. I know the county was so close to making the jail conditions compliant with federal requirements in 2006, but now they've just deteriorated again. Personally, I think Tom Dart is kind of stubborn, his whole take on the electronic monitoring program really irks me, although I'm not completely informed on the procedural requirements for that, so maybe I'm just being hotheaded.

Thanks for posting Sara. I'm interested in learning more about the Cook County prison conditions. I'm currently in DC, and an inmate in a Maryland prison, who allegedly killed a police officer, was hung in prison. It is really big news around the country. The feds are now involved investigating the case and it seems like there was foul play by prison gaurds. I think harsh prison conditions could be the topic of our second event this year. What do you think?

And Lin, I'm glad you appreciate CJI's work. I hope you join us next year! We meet on Tuesdays at 7pm in Bartlett Lounge. If you have any questions or would like to join our listhost, please email me at amolnaik@uchicago.edu.
